Clubs First

Over the summer the club will be working hard towards gaining re-accreditation with England Hockey set to visit in the November.

PLYMOUTH MARJON HC JOIN THE CLUBS 1st CLUB
Plymouth Marjon Hockey Club is celebrating being only the sixth club in the West Region to be accredited with Sport England’s Clubmark and England Hockey “Clubs 1st” Accreditation – a cross-sport quality accreditation for sports clubs with junior sections, which recognises a quality club and provides a ‘safe, effective and child friendly environment. Jamie Oxley club development officer for Plymouth Marjon, “Gaining this important developmental award is great news for the club and sport in the city. We have worked extremely hard over the past 2 years to ensure we have a safe, friendly and well structured club for all. The award has enabled the club to reflect and develop its junior and youth section which continues to grow”

The success in gaining this award has been with the continued working relationship and support from the clubs partners England Hockey West Office, Plymouth City Council Sports Development Unit and the College of St Mark & St John(Marjon). Behind the scenes at the club a team of volunteers have been working to ensure the clubs development programme and policies are of a high standard. Through attending local and regional course in coaching, umpiring, club development, child protection and leadership Plymouth Marjon now has a strong team of volunteers to enable the club to progress both on and off the pitch.

Clubs First & Clubmark will deliver a many benefits to Plymouth Marjon Hockey Club and the scheme is an excellent way for the club to be networked with local, regional and national sports organisations that can provide further support. Clubmark will also benefit the club’s long term development. They will receive a great deal of support from national sports development professionals, who will provide structured training to enhance and improve the quality of coaching delivered within the club. This will improve the clubs overall performance in competition, attracting new members and producing higher quality athletes.

Through Clubmark, Plymouth Marjon Hockey Club will now become a member of the Sport England Club Mark programme joining one of other 2000 sports clubs who have gained the award over the past four years since its introduction.

Jamie Oxley comments, “We are extremely pleased to have been awarded England Hockey Clubs First and Sport England Clubmark, which is testament to the hard work and commitment shown by the entire coaching team and the network of volunteers. The next few months will be very exciting for Plymouth Marjon Hockey Club as we begin to feel the benefits of this accreditation and build upon our recent successes and take advantage of the many benefits, which will be presented by England Hockey & Sport England
