As we're using FixturesLive's SMS service this season, please read the document by clicking on the link below. Why not print them off and put up in your club house. To prepare, each club needs to have assigned a captain to a team, and their mobile number needs to be held on the system. To do this, you need to have a 'club administrator' go in to the system - contact FixturesLive if you need to get that initial access. Please note that this text messages will ONLY be accepted from captains who are set up on the system.

Newsletter

The season has been under way for six weeks and front runners are emerging some of the divisions. Twelve teams are unbeaten following 10.11.07 fixtures.

The texting in of results to Fixtures Live is working well. One or two expected glitches on the first weekend, but since then there has been only one problem which was easily dealt with.

We are aware that the current rules are not on the SOHL web-site. We are working towards putting them on in the near future.

SOHL has had surprisingly few issues to consider:

1) A match was abandoned towards the end of the game. SOHL reviewed and decided that the score at time of abandonment should stand as the result.

2) A player doubled-up for two league games (one SOHL, one non-SOHL), making him ineligible under the Rules. A walkover has been awarded to the SOHL opposition.

3) An away team arrived too late for a fixture to start – currently being reviewed by SOHL.

4) Formal complaints have been received about the on-pitch conduct of one particular team. SOHL are monitoring the situation.

5) We’ve had a couple of queries regarding doubling-up of goalkeepers. They can double-up but both games have to be as goalkeepers. They cannot play one game on-pitch, one game in goal. Note that keepers can double-up within SOHL, but may not be able to do so in other leagues – i.e. a keeper playing in South League would be breaking their rules if he played twice (once South, once SOHL) in one day.

It is disappointing that three teams have already pulled out of the league, two of whom were new to the league this season. We have also lost a team from Div 2.

The re-structuring required as a result of the Surrey Div 2 teams entering SOHL, plus the above losses, has left the SOHL structure far from satisfactory. We now have eight divisions of 12, 11, 10, 9 or 8 teams.

We have 84 teams in divisions 2 - 9. The proposal is that for season 2008 / 2009 we will re-structure into seven divisions each of twelve teams, which will be fixed. Entry into SOHL will only be possible if another team pulls out (or the waiting list grows to twelve teams and another division can be created).

The reason for mentioning this now is that promotions will be affected in the lower divisions.

Assuming no further withdrawals, likely scenario is as follows;

Div 2 – Two up to div 1, one down to div 3

Div 3 – Two up to div 2, one down to div 4

Div 4 – Two up to div 3, one down to div 5

Div 5 – Two up to div 4, one down to div 6

Div 6 – Two up to div 5, one down to div 7

Div 7 – Four up to div 6, one down to div 8

Div 8 – Five up to div 7

Div 9 – One up to div 7 (to allow for promotion), remaining teams to new Div 8

For subsequent seasons we can implement two up, two down.

SOHL would welcome any comments / ideas you may have on this proposal.
